Join us to commemorate the
Centennial of the
PASSING OF THE 1919 PROHIBITION BILL!
Richard Powers with Angela Amarillas
Bay Area, CA
Friday June 14 – Monday June 17, 2019
Avalon Ballroom, Boulder, CO + Colorado/Manitou Springs, CO
Join Richard and Angela for our eagerly anticipated Dance Weekend! Expect fun-filled and inspiring dancing, intermingled with good times with really great people. We will celebrate by learning dances focused on the ‘teens through the ‘30s, (and some others decades too!)
In keeping with the cusp of the passing of this new law that created Prohibition (it took effect in 1920,) our weekend opens Friday during the day by splitting it between a tour of the large MillerCoors Brewery in Golden (yup, there is a tasting room!) and the non-alcoholic Celestial Seasonings plant near Boulder (you get to taste here, too!)
Friday evening will open with workshops and open dancing at the beautiful Avalon Ballroom in Boulder
Saturday and Sunday daytime we will continue our workshops with Richard and Angela at the Avalon Ballroom. Our workshops will be role balanced during registration to assure the best dance experience for everyone. See the Registration page for more information.
Saturday evening we will be inspired and delighted with a Prohibition Ball, focusing on dances from the ‘teens, ‘20s, and ‘30s, and as well as other decades. Our live music will be provided by the nationally renowned Mont Alto Ragtime and Tango Orchestra, directed by the extraordinary Rodney Sauer. This will be a dressy event!
After our Sunday afternoon workshops close, we plan an optional field trip to Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs for supper, optional beer tasting, and a look at how beer is made in a “smaller-than-MillerCoors” local brewpub! Monday’s events in the same location will include a silent film in a 1923 historic theater accompanied by Rodney Sauer, followed by a 4-course tea with dancing to Rodney’s live music in an 1895 castle museum .
See the Schedule & Attire page for more information on what to wear when, as well as a more detailed schedule across our events!
